having trouble setting up link back

Postby decals » May 1st, 2009, 9:06 pm

Hi Shawn -

I'm running into some trouble when trying to activate - not finding the linkback. My thoughts are this is happening because.........

my domain name is http://www.bestdecals.net

however -

that is only a fwd to where my page is hosted, which is http://users.zoominternet.net/~decals

Your ad is on my home page. Is the problem that I'm using the fwd from domain name or because i'm hosted via our free web space provided by our internet service which is in a sub directory of the domain name.

I'm sure this is all pretty straight fwd to you and you'll think what the heck is he doing that for?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Shawn -

I've gone ahead and changed over:

from the re-direct domain / free web space from internet provider and am transferring my domain over to a new service which is hosting my site.

i'm sure the way i had it setup prev. was causing the problems.

once the new hosting / domain / and site is moved over i'll try and again and post here if it worked.

thanks,
doug

Hello Doug,

The issue is that there is no site at bestdecals.net... If that is the domain that you would like to submit a sitemap for, there are no URLs on that domain to place in the sitemap. This is a rule of the Sitemap Protocol at sitemaps.org and AutoMapIt is built to make sure this rule (and others) are followed, meaning you don't normally have to worry about this.

The issue with your free host URL is that your specific area of the site is within a subfolder (~decals) of the main domain (users.zoominternet.net). AutoMapIt itself is built to work with an entire domain, so my system is not built to begin with a subfolder of a domain.

Once you have http://www.bestdecals.net setup on it's own hosting and have your site moved from zoominternet 'free hosting' to a more 'normal' hosting setup ($5/mo at HostGator), not only will AutoMapIt work for you, but you will certainly notice much better search engine traffic and ranking.

This will not be the only thing you need to do to get rank, but versus trying to do other things for SEO while you are still on the free host... this will be a huge help to you when your site has been moved and your domain name has been 'legitimized'.

Hello Doug,

I received your activation request earlier today and activated your domain. You should notice better SEO to a small degree now that your domain name blends seamlessly across your site.

My system should have completed with all of the crawlers by now, so be sure to log back into AutoMapIt and check your stats!

Shawn - you were right - it all went smoothly once i moved to a real web host instead of the free space from my internet provider.

thanks again for your help.
