ping yahoo

Postby caffesolo » August 26th, 2007, 8:03 pm

i have tried to use the ping yahoo feature in the sitemap set-up but it will not save, whenever i select "ping yahoo" it defaults back to deselected when i save the changes to the page

do i need an api key with yahoo or something?

i set up a site explorer account but that doesnt seem to have anything to do with it

btw, is there somewhere to tell yahoo that i have an urllist.txt for them?

I found an error in the code that wasn't changing that particular setting properly. It should work properly now.

When you elect for AutoMapIt to ping Yahoo or any other search engine, you must also use Automatic Uploads from AutoMapIt in order for this to work. The reason for this is that when my system uploads your sitemaps, it knows exactly where they went and exactly when they were uploaded. When my system pings the search engines, I want to be sure that it is correct.

You will not need any APIs or user codes to use this feature. The Yahoo API key used is my own key for this site.

If you do not use AutoMapIt's Automatic Upload feature, then the system cannot be sure where or when it was placed on your site and is not able to ping the search engines automatically. In this case you would need to submit manually to Yahoo at http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit

I do not suggest submitting manually if you already use the auto-ping feature. They may tend to frown on that.

There is another option that many of the search engines are now supporting which involves robots.txt sitemap submission, explained further at robotstxt-sitemap-submission-t64.html
